Car will not start
Asked by TinFour Mar 03, 2019 at 02:58 PM about the 2000 Saturn L-Series 4 Dr LS1 Sedan
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
Replaced the starter and the idle air
control valve because it threw a code
along with the evap control. Still
won’t start. It’s my first Saturn and
they aren’t in production anymore,
any suggestions. Also when I do
finally kick it over... after driving it
smells like melting wax or plastic
Brand new AC Delco starter
Duralast Idle air Control valve
New Air intake filter
New battery.

By "wont start" do u mean it wont even spin or do anything.. or the engine just cranks and cranks and wont start
Don’t do anything. I’m thinking maybe electrical considering I just replaced my Idle Air Control Valve and a day later it’s back to the same high idling . And the part was brand new as of yesterday.
Is it possible that this could be an ECU Error? Because I’m completely lost here. It starts finally after some time of trying but when it does start it has all kinds of weird issues. For example: As soon as I start the car my exterior cooling fans kick on really loud regardless of outside temperature. My idle revs about 1500 to 2000 rpm right at ignition, and if I immediately drive instead of waiting for about 18 minutes accelerating past 2000 rpm while driving and when I let off the gas it revs up and down between 1500 and 2000 repeatedly until I come to a full stop ( shaking the car frontward and backward) and throws a high idle code. My Odometer backlight comes on whenever it wants to And a strong plastic melting or hot wax odor emits somewhere from the car without any smoke what so ever. So I’m having multiple odd things happen leading me to believe it’s an electrical problem. Because I just replaced the Starter, Idle Air Control valve, Air Filter, battery, and did an oil change. And literally as soon as I started the car after the oil change this all started happening. And not over time, literally all at the same time immediately after.
