2003 L200 cranks on a part time basis.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

On occasions my L200 will refuse to crank.  I have noticed that if the running lights in
the headlight assembly are burning I can crank it and put it in gear.  But if those lights
are off it will not crank.  Sometimes when it cranks the running lights will go off, and
then I cannot depress the button on the shifter to put it in gear.  My mechanic has
replaced the key switch, the other switch that the key turns and cleaned a ground wire.
It still has the same problem.  Help!!!

Could be the stater, the relay is going bad working some time,s then not other, the not coming out of park, will be the neutral safety switch that release,s the shifter when you mash the break pedal,it is under dash at break pedal.
