fuel gauge and odometer don"t work

The chassis ground (one in which your instrumentation is installed) gets it's ground from a single lug connection to the battery...each start sends "welding" power through this connection...you may notice the blue spark when the starter is engaged...that blue crud is what is holding up the show....get a coarse wirebrush and wirebrush the 1/0 cable (non-clamp, but lug) and the spot on the chassis/fender to which it attaches....down to shiny metal...and re-attach it....assure that the battery is less than five years old as these new tin-antimony (no lead anymore) batteries die at 10 percent per year...so we don't want to replace the cooking alternator that's trying to keep up with a dying battery~ GET A NEW ONE~
