Not that it is the best platform to start with, but you can get an air intake, and a custom exhaust would not be impossible to fab, but really a different vehicle would be a better place to start. You could always spray it, it would be fun while it lasted...
You can look around for aftermarket part shops but, it wont be money well spent. Those cars arent worth the time, effort and money. Find something else to play with. :)
first off try andys auto sports online....or just do basics take of ur power steering pump and hard line, a/c compresser and all hard lines, cruise control....then get a cold air intake, gut ur catyllic converter and drop ur muffler for a glass pak wth a tip:)
taking off those parts wont dont anything. power steering is maybe +2hp IF your lucky and running with the a/c compressor off is exactly the same as taking it off. no gain. cruise control? really? at this point i think your just trolling... cold air will improve so will gutting the converter but a glass pack is only for noise. loud obnoxious noise.
sorry bro do ur homework.u lose close to 100 pounds and on top of that the motor will spool so much faster and harder...ur lookn at close to 40 more horsepower...not to mention POWER 2 WEIGHT RATIO..and the cruise onntrol thing was ment 2 b a tuner thing..real guys who love 2 drive dont use c/c..when taken off u have a lot of room under the hood....all u need is a belt 2 run ur alternator or maybe waterpump....when u drop ur power steern the car feels lke a racecar the way it feels in turns will make u not wanna park ur car just keep driven
Edward: You have really brought this thread to a new level... gains of 40hp are *never* achieved by component removal on any engine. I/H/E & ECU on a different car? MAYBE, if you are already producing 300 at the crank. The affect of shedding weight on acceleration is easily the best bang for your buck, but 30% power gain on en engine from component removal simply does not happen. I feel dumberer for even having responded to this, but my coffee has not kicked in yet. "or maybe waterpump"? the n/a engine "spools"? please invest in a keyboard nanny to prevent further drivel from entering the ether...
better idea for you...instead of investing time and money into this car take all of what you were going to spend and have an awesome weekend with some friends. its just not worth it. maybe save up for a different car in the future and leave this as a winter beater or your daily driver.
swap a ecotech engine in it lots of part turbos, superchargers or good old n/a
You could try and AEM short ram intake kit if you have an auto or get a cold air intake kit if you have a manual. I have a custom stainless steel 2.0 inch exhaust from the cat back and an AEM short ram intake. I might have an extra 6hp at best with those mods since I'm running a stock 1.9 motor.
