I did a ignition replace in a 2000 sl series the dash lights are going crazy?

Asked by Jessica Oct 28, 2017 at 03:24 PM about the 2000 Saturn S-Series 4 Dr SL2 Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The 2000 was found on side of the road with a blown motor and the ignition
fully peeled off. I did a full engine swap from a 1999 sl2, went in pretty
smooth. I'm have problems with the new ignition replace. I used the ignition
out of '99 I have the Keyes for it. But the dash lights are going crazy and the
only thing that isn't lit up is the SECURITY light. But when I hold down the
lock button it starts acting right. So it's keeping me from programming the
ignition. Any thoughts about it will help. Please help me!!!?????

Sounds like the body control modules interfering with what you're trying to do you might have to get the body control module flashed and synced with that car with the new ignition I mean.

Yeah I don't know which methods you're using here to try to recode your ignition system to your security system but you might have to go to the dealership and pay the money and have them do it or find it with an on-site website that you can send the security module and ignition module or something to them to reprogram it might be the best thing you can do with a warranty might save a lot of headaches you might have to spend money but sometimes it saves you a lot of headaches!

It's the 3 step 30 min program. Steps: turn key on, security light on dash will be flashing leave key on and wait ten min or till light stop flashing then turn key off then back on. Do that 3 times that should reprogram the new ignition. But when I tried doing it it did it the first time then when I turned the key on to do it the 2 time the security light was not flashing.

Yeah when you do that procedure you need to do it very quickly as I remember to turn it on and off the amount of times very quickly. I would do more searching on how to do the programming just to make sure their's one method that's prominent that does the job but I believe it's how fast you turn it on and off I think that is important cuz if you're too slow then it won't program.
