Edmunds.com shows the 2006 Mercury Montego Premier as having four wheel disc brakes, ventilated front... solid rotor rear. If you have not missed a bolt, look real well, you may have to open the bleeder valve to release pressure on the calipers and pads from the rotor.

Thank-you. I miss named the Rotor as drum. I will bleed the to release pressure on the pads. Thanks again.

You need to put that part back on and the remove the other bolts that hold the pads in place, just the caliber. You will need to push the pads back a little and then turn the piston counter clock wise with special tool. The piston will not push in because there is a screw in side. That is for the emergency brake. The other bolts should not be too tight that holds the caliber. These hold the sliders so the pads can move back and forth. I recommend you re-grease the sliders. Be careful on the rubbers seals. The two bolts you took off remove the whole assembly.
