2007 Chevy Tahoe won't start back up after driving with the AC on for 20 minutes
I have a 2007 Tahoe that has a very weird issue that usually only happens in
the Summer. If I drive it for at least 20 minutes or so with the AC on and then I
stop somewhere and turn it off, it will not start again for about 30 minutes to an
hour. A mechanic buddy that I have said tp pop the cap on the starter relay
and press the contact, that works and starts the Tahoe, but then the AC
doesn't blow cold air. I changed out the relay and it still does the same thing,
any ideas?
Make sure battery has a full charge and connections all good? when you say, " it won't start again for 30 minutes", are you saying it cranks good but won't start or it won't even crank? Was it the starter relay you replaced? When problem is ongoing, if starter motor won't crank the engine, note the wiring diagram for starter motor. Can you unplug starter relay, if so, unplug it, use jumper wire between cavities for switch side of relay. the switch side, is right side in diagram, the starter motor should crank the engine? You can see starter fuse, check for voltage with relay energized. You can use a test light to check for voltage. If starter will crank with jumper but, otherwise won't. You need to check control side of relay, left side in diagram, the control side needs voltage and ground. You can use both ends of test light on the cavities, control side of relay, with key in crank position, if test light comes on, there is voltage and ground good enough for test light. If the light doesn't come on, your missing either voltage or ground. The ground for control side, black wire is a chassis ground. The voltage for control side of relay, is that top wire, in diagram. as you can see, the crank position of ignition switch sends signal to bcm, the bcm then sends signal to ecm, the ecm then sends voltage to control side starter relay. Usually if ac only blowing warm air it's because the compressor clutch isn't engaged. You check that, you the compressor fuse, it if hot when you turn on ac? You use a test light. some makes and models, if computer thinks the engine is overloaded or over heating it may disable ac compressor? good luck, Any trouble codes for anything?
