What is the widest tire to fit a 17 inch wheel rim?

I have a 2007 Chevrolet Uplander LT and I need to put new tires all around.and am wondering what is the widest tire I can put on this rim. The stock tire is 225/60R/17. I would like to put a wider tire (not bigger) on this vehicle because I have a mobility cart that is on a rear ramp and it would help give my vehicle more stability.

You need to take a look at the wheel well clearance. Most likely you can go up one or maybe two sizes. If you go up two sizes you may want to go to 55 series tires though. Have a tire shop do a trial fit to make sure the new tires clear OK.

I have a 2007 Chevrolet upland and the tire size on it is 225 60 17. Can you put 235 65 17 on it?
