Van tries to lunge forward while sitting at red light with foot on brake

sounds like a possible torque converter control solenoid. it locks the torque converter at highway speeds so the trans doesn't shift so much. if they fail, they wont unlock. see if you can locate the electrical plug on the trans for this. unplug it. if the problem "fixes" then that is your problem. you can drive the vehicle with this unplugged, but you will sacrifice mileage and your cruise control may not work properly.

My 2002 Chrysler Town & Country was doing the same thing - trying to lunge, revving while stopped. Replacing the EGR valve solved the problem.
