Stereo Issues?
Asked by Bruce Sep 12, 2008 at 09:05 AM about the 2007 Chevrolet HHR LT FWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I've got the premium stereo system with subwoofer and XM satellite streamer.
Occasionally, when I start the car, the radio is distorted and crackling. Turning the radio on/off does nothing to help. The only solution is to shut off the car entirely and start it again, sometimes twice. This happened several times, but is now only once a month. Needless to say, the dealership can do little to solve the problem but has dutifully recorded it in the vehicle's history for future reference.
Any ideas or similar problems?

Sounds like you need a filter between your sub woofer and stero. The cars may have changed, the stero's may have changed....but the problems are still the same.
This is a GM factory unit - is it a problem they've been having with this sort of system? It's not like it's a monster stereo - small car, small stereo by 'after market' standards.
i had the same problem in mine, a few of the wires were to close together as they got closer to the speakers. after i moved them slightly apart, the problem stopped.
I had the booster/amp in the base of the antenna short out. You can test this by taking the 8 screws out the sun visors then pull down on the front of head liner. stick a block of wood in there and unhook the connector to the power wire to the antenna. FM will work and AM will stink.
I have an hhr 2008 and the radio turn on but you can barely hear it . And when you do hear the low sound it puts out it is literally distorted! The dealership financed this car to me like this as well as didn’t clean it out or Do a maintenance check what should I do
