Car Repair timeframe

My Pontiac Torrent was taken back to the "S" Auto Repair on Wednesday before Thanksgiving because of fume smell in the car and blinking engine light. I have not spoken to the shop since Friday when I though they had'nt picked up the car and we were going to take it to them. However, my question is , If the code is Multi Misfire P0300 I think, and I have to repair Head Gaskets etc. what is an estimate time-frame to do the job and because it has happened the last repair job do you think the mechanic should consult the owner before performing the job or should there be any charges on the owner since this was not the issue before the last repair?

The shop should contact you and get you to authorize repairs once they diagnose the problem. What did you tell them when you left the car there? Perhaps you should call them and inquire about the cars status??

Once another shop gave me a code, and that the car had a chemical smell inside he suggest that I take the car back to the repair shop. The repair shop ask me what was the code, and said "I will take care of you and he came 2 days later picked-up SUV. I am not sure what that I will take care of you means. The SUV is in the rear of the shop lot. I see that he has a lot of cars on the lot. As of today I have not heard from the shop owner.
