Check engine light

Asked by Nichelle Mar 02, 2018 at 10:57 AM about the 2007 Pontiac Torrent Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So my check engine light came on this morning. For
the past few weeks the heat has been slow to come
up and a few times it cut off when in put it in
reverse. Could all these issues be related? What
would cause the check engine light to come on?
The car runs normally. I had all 4 brakes and rotars
replaced 2 weeks ago.

To be sure, have the error codes read by a local shop or parts store. This will tell you why the check engine light has come on. It is probably not related but could be if a temp sensor failed or coolant level has gotten low. Low coolant will cause your heat to become erratic since there is not enough to completely circulate through your system.
