Question type: Car Customization

Can a smart key remote be programmed to
work on an older model vehicle (same
brand of car of course) only to be used to
lock and unlock the doors. I understand
that smart key remotes are used for push
start capable vehicles. Can the remote be
programmed from a 2015 to a 2007 just to
be used as a key fob?
