3kv4- I'm sorry for your loss, could you please share what happened, did you run out of oil, overheat, and how many miles were on your car? There's some websites out there for replacement engines, a remanufactured engine is your best bet, exchange engines are not. http://www.jasperengines.com/blog/jasper-offers-remanufactured- subaru-25l-sohc-boxer-engine

You will get a three year or 100,000 miles warranty on the remanufactured engine...I would say that is pretty good.... If your car is in excellent condition and all other systems are working fine, an investment like this is less EXPENSIVE than purchasing a new car...

3kv4, - I hope my answer is helpful to you, if so, please mark it "BEST ANSWER" . I have a 2010 Subaru Outback with this same engine design and just under 83,000 miles. I imagine that you probably have more miles on your car. In any case, good luck your vehicle. If I had this problem, I would definitely look into the remanufactured engine, I understand that the "boxer engines" especially the lower end are extremely difficult to rebuild. So, getting the remanufactured engine is a perfect choice. If your car is not worth much and in so-so condition, you could get an exchange engine and sell it for whatever you can get.... But, if you intend to keep the car yourself, the remanufactured engine is the way to go!

3kv4- One last question, did you "blow the engine" because of a timing belt failure??

I bought a japanese second hand engine from a firm in derby ( sorry but forget the name)....had it fitted by engineer at their recommendation. great engine still going strong after 3 years hard driving

Boxster_5863-- you got lucky... When you say that you purchased a second hand engine, I imagine that it was an exchange engine??

The website I cited above, Jasper Engines are not exchange engines, they are remanufactured engines, world of difference....
