Power Steering

Asked by tygru Oct 30, 2016 at 10:36 AM about the 2006 Subaru Outback 2.5i Wagon AWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The Power Steering pump started to whine a little upon starting this week, but
got better as the car warmed up. I didn't notice any obvious leaks around the
reservoir or pump, and the fluid levels looked fine. Yesterday it went out all
together. What tests can I do to see if the pump needs replacing, or if there s
a simpler, cheaper solution? Only 75k miles.

75,000 miles??? That's really low mileage for a 2006 , YES, replace the steering pump , its 10 years old and you don't want to take a chance on it going out again when you most need it to work. Get s genuine Subaru replacement part.
