You may have a problem with your HEI ignition coil. The GM corp. used a "coil in cap" configuration for a long time. You probably swapped the coil to the new cap without realizing it was defective. You can test the coil by removing it from the cap and checking for resistance across the terminals with an ohmmeter. Infinite resistance = bad coil and no spark. A new coil should only run about $30 and should solve your problem.
