Electrical gone haywire after changing battery.

Asked by Shangrala May 13, 2016 at 12:21 PM about the 1997 Chrysler Town & Country LXi LWB FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I don't know from one use to the next if my remote locks will work - I have
to turn the ignition on just to lock/unlock all the doors. Radio starts & stops
constantly. Inside lights come on at random when parked. About 3 minutes
after shutting off engine I hear a "bzzzzz" beneath the dash on the left side
(just above the break pedal)..sounds like something resetting itself. And
once in a while for no reason at all, the theft system prevents me from
starting the van.
We've gone through the fuses under the hood - A few times having to push
them down as though tricking the electrical system to work.

HELP please. What do I need to do to fix these issues?

Sounds like the Anti Theft System is your Problem! Try open the driver door leave it open. Turn the key over to the position right befor it starts and leave it there for about 1 minute an then try to start. If that don't work look in your owners manual an check an see how to reset your Anti Theft System!

First thing to check is the Bonding straps! GROUNDS ... these are notorious for corroding away..double check the battery 12.6 volts and have it load tested too, terminals clean and tight? After you have it running...Have it read for codes, even if the check engine light is NOT on the computer will have stored information and codes. Discount auto stores will read codes for no fee. write them down. Regards

Thank you both for your prompt replies. I appreciate it. I'll look into your suggestions & will return with results :)
