My driver side door ajar light on my dash is on
even with the door closed. If I remove the switch
and leave it off, would that still drain my car

Yes, if u remove the switch, it will still show that door is open. Switch needs to be pushed in to show that door is closed. Check switch. With door open and car turned on, push the switch plunger in and see if it shows door closed. If it does, try to adjust swtch. If switch is not adjustable, replace switch. If nothing happens when u push it in, check wires, if wires are ok, replace switch.
