2007 VW Passat Wagon is making a muffled noise coming from the engine.

there is a muffled noise coming from the engine, just sounds different. Just had spark plugs replaced bc there were mis firing and could not accelerate up hills....was fixed working fine and then after 2 weeks, car making different noise. Any idea what it could be? Thanks

There maybe an exhaust leak to exhaust pipe going to the manifold or leaking manifold gasket.

Keep in mind even that the ck engine is not on it might be faults in the memory!!! It sound to me like you are loosing boost from a hose or pipe connector
most likely culprit on these cars is the flex pipe for leaks. its usually located right behind the engine under the hood it looks like a sleeve over the pipe. Check it for leaks by running hte engine and feeling for a breeze from around the pipe by puting your hand Near, Not on the pipe.

Yea be real careful and not to injure yourself :-( just take it to a muffler shop and they can tell you at no cost also be careful with clogged catalytic converter
