Am I the only one that is having trouble with my cvt on my 07Nissan sentra? It's making a noise and not even Nissan can tell me what it is... There is something wrong with my car.

Asked by Candace Oct 27, 2014 at 12:41 AM about the 2007 Nissan Sentra SL

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought my 2007 Nissan sentra in Feb of
07. In March of 08 I had to take it in for
normal check up.  They then called me to
tell me they had found steel shavings in my
transmission fluid. So of course they put a
new transmission.. I think.. Well now it's
October of 2014 an a 106,000 miles later
and I have grunting and grinding and when I
put my car in drive it vibrates.. when I go to
drive the vibration goes away and that's
when I have the grunting and grinding noise
that starts. My check engine light has never
came on.. I'm at my end with Nissan they
won't even help me.  I know my car an I
know when something is wrong.

CVT transmissions are not rebuildable. Start with checking your fluid level. The vibration could be a bad transmission and/or engine mount(s).

Ive checked that an added one quart of cvt transmission fluid but every thing is where it should be. I've had everything checked by Nissan but I will have my engine mounts checked again.. Thanks it'll give me somewhere to start

If you added a whole quart you have a pretty bad leak. If you've been driving it around like that and its making that kind of noise it could be that the transmission is toast. Personally I would never own any vehicle with a CVT transmission. They are to expensive to replace and like I said before can't be rebuilt. I hope yours is something simple. Good luck.

Another thing is something is bringing my rpms way down when I turn the steering wheel.

That is something completely different. Could be a bad steering rack, power steering pump, or a simple as your low on power steering fluid. Start with checking you P/S fluid level.
