Idle dropped in my car to 400-500 rpm and won't move the car forward. What would cause this?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2005 Suzuki XL7 6 cylinder with about 150k miles on it, and all of a sudden, the idle dropped from about 1200 to about 400 and would barely keep running. When i pressed the gas, it would only move maybe 1-2 mph. The engine is making kind of a dinging or clicking sound. When in neutral, it takes some time (3-4 seconds, but i can get the engine to rev up to 4-5k rpm, but in gear, it just won't move.

If this happen suddenly while driving, you may need to check the timing belt may have jumped, that would explain the noise in engine and lost power.
