Porsche Boxster 2007 - engine management light on

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My little Boxster (40K miles) has been almost flawless. Hadn't driven her for 2+ weeks and now engine management light is on. She is driving well. No odd sounds from the engine. Question: will driving to garage damage her? Should I have her picked up?

DME has detected an emissions related issue have it scanned for DTC's... if the lights not flashing your safe to drive it to the service center.

Hi Mark - thanks so much for your reply. The light was yellow/amber and not flashing. I called out my insurance breakdown service and they have given me the code: P0101 MAFopVAG - Circuit Range Performance. The light is now off. The chap advises check into garage and have them check it out, which I will. Any idea why this has happened and what this coding relates to?

The code indicates a fuel metering issue in the MAF circuit (mass air flow). The issue can be the MAF meter itself which measures grams of oxygen into the engine or electrical connections to it. Check for vacuum leaks in the intake ducting and hoses. A vacuum leak also causes code P0101...Finally back pressure in the exhaust / catalytic converter is another potential cause. 20mins with the proper test equipment and required skill-set locates the exact cause.
