Key doesn't unlock

Asked by Pontiac19 Feb 28, 2017 at 11:58 AM about the 2007 Pontiac G6 GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 07 Pontiac G6 GT key (metal key) won't open
the door. It also has a non working fob, are these
things related? I got locked out of my car yesterday
and had to climb in through the trunk. That key
opening works. Help please

It's very possible at some point the previous owner changed just the lock on the Doors. Both the fob and the key are not related, but when you get a new battery for the key fob it may have to be reset. As far as the door lock goes, you will probably have to call a locksmith and get a new key for the door cut. Or you could have them make a new lock so the current key works.

My daughter has a 2006 G6 same thing. The alarm goes off when she turns the key but it won't unlock the door. The trunk opens with the key but she can't get into the car without unlocking the seat.
