Something is wrong, needs fixed. Fans working?
240 Deg F is way too hot. I own a 2006 Pontiac G6. and mine was running at 180 to 190 Deg F. , which is too cold ( Low cooling temps will cause the PCM to add to more fuel to raise the temp ). I changed the thermostat ( Located in the block just under the air intake pipe at the throttle body, driver side ) as it was leaking by and now my running temps range from 195 to 201 Deg. F max. Your overheating problem either means cooling water pump trouble ( pump not turning, air bound ) radiator fans not running. Radiator trouble. I would check that out pronto and don't run the engine anymore than necessary to troubleshoot it. The thermostat for some reason could also be failing to open. Good luck.
I use a Konwei scanner to double check the temps
i got a 2007 Pontiac what temp does it get to turn the cooling fans on
