Volvo S40 Service Engine Urgent Message

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2007 Volvo S40. It has had a catalytic converter engine code for
some time. Haven't gotten around to replacing it. Today I pulled out quickly to
get in front of another car and the tires squealed and slipped a little.
Immediately, a red triangle appeared with the message that the engine
needed to be serviced urgently. I pulled into a shop and they only thing that
they could find was the same catalytic converter code that was already there.
Nothing new. I drove the car again and two minutes later the message came
back up and was still there when I pulled into my driveway. Any ideas as to
the cause / severity and why it happened the moment I accelerated quickly?
Thanks.

The sudden increase in exhaust flow probably triggered the code.

Hi. If the code was created by the sudden increase in exhaust flow 1) is this related to the need to replace the converter 2) is it safe to drive on until I get the converter replaced? Thanks.
