Driving down highway in my s10. Heard a popping, cracking sound underneath it. It died and now it will not start. Still turns over but will not crank. What could've happened?

Inspect under vehicle for any fluid leaks. Also check all fluids for proper level.

Go back to basics: Spark , Compression & Fuel. 1) Pull distributor cap crank motor see if it turns. If not "Timing chain" Then pull valve cover. If rocker arm move distributor does not. Drive gear on cam. If all seems to be working pull a plug see if your getting a spark. hope this helps.
