Changing the rear end gear ratio won't add power. That will change whether you want more top-end speed or better acceleration -- with same engine. Do you really want to go to the expense of a bigger engine? Even if you find a good used engine, and with used, you are always gambling on what you are getting. What's in it now? The 2.8L V6 or 4.3L? Or turbos see http://ls1tech.com/forums/forced-induction/1026160-speed-inc-tt-1992-typhoon-build-2.html

Those are for if you are serious and are will to spend some high $$$$. There are lots of other things you can do, but ya gotta be careful about emissions, some States, especially Calif, but not only, consider it 'tampering' and you will never pass inspection

You have a small lightweight machine. So putting a ton of HP into it will spell disaster. If a SC or Turbo is not your cup of tea, consider a small V-8 with cam, headers, and either an aftermarket EFI for power, or carburetor. I'd go with the EFI set up as it tunes the engine constantly, and some offer dial in changes for power or economy when you take your grandma to church. m You will need to look at suspension, radiators, transmissions, drive trains, breaks, smog, and a host of other changes. Anything can be done, how much are you willing to spend?
