2006 Porsche 997 - Convertible Top Failure
Asked by Alan Feb 12, 2017 at 11:07 AM about the 2006 Porsche 911 Carrera 4 Cabriolet AWD
Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My convertible top has failed and a visual inspection showed that the hydraulic fluid was a little low but above the minimum. On the button press, it sounds like the pump is running however there is no movement of any of the parts involved in raising/lowering the top. Before proceeding to purchase a very expensive hydraulic pump I wanted to post this for opinions on diagnosing the problem more completely,.

Have you scanned the car for error codes? You may also have a micro switch failure
I would inspect all components of the convertible top system. It may be jammed or have a leaking hydraulic hose.
It cannot hurt to top of the hydraulic fluid but I suspect a bad pump or ram.

Can anyone advise me one where to find instructions on how to check the hydraulic lines & pump? Have a ‘06 911 4S started giving me issues with the top this afternoon. Would really try and fix this myself instead of having to trailer it 2-hrs to a dealership and get royally screwed on $ and possibly fix myself.
