I have had this problem on the wife’s 2006 PT GT, all the gauges went nuts, lights, bells, and possibly whistled once. What I found with her pt was corrosion on the negative battery terminal, large or small amount will make the computer go haywire. Clean area with baking soda and water, use a battery post cleaner on post and terminals, and finish with a battery terminal protector spray. Hope this helps you out.

The instrument panel on my 2005 pt cruiser went nuts after I installed a new battery last year. Every time I would take it out the gauges would go crazy and then go dark. The other day I un-plugged the wiring harnesses on the PCM (power control module) and then plugged them back in. That was a few days ago and so far, the problem has gone away. My fingers are crossed, but you might want to give it a try. (the PCM is on the firewall)

Roughly a year ago my 2006 PT Cruiser start exhibiting similar issues with the instrument cluster guages fluctuation, a loss in power & performance and twice the vehicle stalled out completely. This "Gremlin" would pop up occassionally but some times it did and some times it didn't upon start up. After four different garages (including the dealership) looked under the hood to no avail. I've been looking on YouTube for a possible remedy and have just given this a try: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xl8B78vBDXk I took it out today after completing the YouTube remedy today and happily the "Gremlin" is gone.

I follow the directions in that YouTube link you posted and it worked for me too. How great to finally get that fixed. Thanks!

I 100% Guarantee that it is the ignition switch. Not ignition lock cylinder. Not ignition itself unless the switch is itself called the ignition. It is under the steering wheel very few screws but still a SOAB to change out but trust me you can do it. Part will for sure be under 45 or maybe a little more if you get the lifetime but lets face it you'll be working on something else before that thing breaks again......
