If the light goes on then its possible a code was thrown. Go to Auto Zone and have them read the car for feed to see if there are any codes. If so post them here for help.

Sounds like a misfire. You CAN NOT drive the car with a flashing check engine light. This will hurt your engine. If the check engine light is solid and doesn't blink, you can drive it
