Why won't the plastic cap come off the positive terminal of the battery?

Is that cap on a new battery? New batteries with top posts have a cap to prevent accidental shorting. There's a tab that gets pulled to break it free. You might have to cut it off. Side posts have a plastic disk that unscrews.

C batman- seal them after your get the red compressed &or fastened And as you get toward Hybrids:NEVER CUT OR DISCONNECT THE ORANGE Wire.

Seal a 'DIE" hard with petroleum jell. Or your source of EMF.
