How to Safely Disconnect Battery?

80

Asked by Wolf Sep 07, 2018 at 08:46 AM about the 2006 Chrysler Sebring Touring Convertible FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

So the battery is located in the wheel well in the
front drivers side, the best way to get to it is to take
off the front tire. I need to disconnect the power to
the vehicle to do some electronic work involving
wires and such and would rather not get zapped. I
was hoping there was an easier way to just
disconnect the power. Thanks!

Disconnect the negative cable first then the positive. When reconnecting reverse the procedure and connect the positive cable followed by the negative cable. This reduces the possibility of shorting something out with the tool(s) you use while disconnecting.

Sorry, I should have been a bit more specific! I can't remove the tire to get to the actual battery. I don't have the tools for that sort of work. Is there a way to get to the battery or disconnect it another way?

If you are doing any electrical work the battery must be disconnected. Why can't you remove the tire?

I just don't have any way to lift the car or the right wrench to remove the bolts on the wheel. Most of what I do only requires pliers and a screwdrivers. Never had to try to get to the battery through a wheel well.

I'm assuming there isn't a way to disconnect the battery without popping off the tire. I'll send em to someone else. Thanks anyway!

I really don't know if there is another method or not. Thanks for the question.

You have to raise the car, driver side tire removed, and pull the plastic cover that protects the battery from damage. You will find the battery there. I know right stupid
