2006 Sebring, over heats and wont start for awhile...mechanic tried saying computer...Auto zone said change spark plugs, need your help

Daughter drives to and from work, car over heats...then she cant get it started till it cools
down. Checked coolant, its fine.  Mechanic tried saying its the computer wants to charge
$600. Auto zone says change the spark plugs........any ideas?
