Question type: Maintenance & Repair

This car has rusted through on part of engine, I believe it is the cylander cover (see photo).
How bad is this and what do I do to repair it?  Thanks

It is only a sheet metal cover to keep the heat of the manifold away from other components- it is still doing its job- but it is simple to replace if it bothers you- it might be hard to find a good lookin' one-

I agree. It's not hurting anything as it is. And will not cause any drivability issues. But if you just want it fixed I would just get a new one or find a donor car you can get a good used one from.

Thanks guys, I was thinking that, but I am not a car guy and didn't want to hit the road with any potential problems

Hey fellas...Tom, dandy, jam...click on that pic and have another look...check out the bolts....on the manifold it's self and where it comes out...is that still part of the heat shield?

Ok, Now I agree and think you are fine. Just a bit rusty, if you ever had to get that manifold off you would have a fight with those bolts, but no worries, I would not hesitate to hit the road with peace of mind. Sorry, just double checking
