Car won't start because the wiring mechanism on
the shifterlinkage is shot

I don't know what sort of an answer you are looking for......... (1) if you knew the wiring you could jumper the wires ..... (2) Get a used replacement from a pick n pull or salvage yard....your Buick was made for several years so there were be plenty to choose from.......also the Buick Regal of the same years was basically the same car......good chance the Regal part will fit also.
