Buick Century battery not charging?

Asked by ayrjim Jul 31, 2016 at 04:24 PM about the 1998 Buick Century Custom Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My battery ran down a couple times. I had it checked and it checked out good. Checked the voltage at that battery when the car was running and only read 11.2 volts. I figured bad alternator so I took it in and had it checked. Checked good. Putting out 14.2 v. Put it back in and still getting 11.2 volts with car running. I thought it has to be the alternator so I purchased a new one. Put it in and am still only getting 11.2v at battery when the motor is running. Battery reads 12.1v when car is not running. Not sure what to check now.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

Alternator light does light during light test when starting car. Goes out after a couple seconds. Jim
