Heat not getting hot?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Recently I had the starter replaced on my
1994 Buick Lesabre. In order to get my car
started the first time, the serviceman had to
hit my starter with a hammer to get it
started.

After it was replaced, my heat simply does
not get hot. It blows somewhat lukewarm
air through the floor, but the windshield
vents are freezing. Also, my engine light
comes on periodically, but I can never get it
read because when I turn my car off and
then back on, the light goes off instantly.

I guess my question is, what is the most
likely reason for the cold air, and would the
replacement of the starter or the engine
light have a connection to this?

Thanks!

prior to the starter problem how was your heat? or was it not used? it seems highly unlikely that they are connected. it sounds like your heater core may be blocked or clogged preventing the warmer air to pass through the vents. take a look at your temp gauge is it running in the normal range or is it low or hot? as a 94 year model your car has obd1 im not sure if the engine codes are stored like they are in obd2 cars. in obd2 cars when a check engine light comes on or off the code is stored. try having a shop check your car for codes

It was fine, that's what's weird. I'm guessing that the thermostat got messed up or a hose came loose or something. The system is controlled electronicly, so that makes it harder to determine what the problem might be. Thanks.
