Need more info. Was the car spitting and sputtering before you replaced the fuel pump and filter? Is that why you replaced them? Then after replacement seemed to work but only for 40 miles? And now it wont run at all without spitting and sputtering? If so....wondering if you need to clean out your fuel tank. Maybe water or debris in there clogging your new pump and filter. The right thing. Best and cheapest thing is to test your fuel pressure at the engine. Probably need a garage to do this for you. (dont go to the dealer...never go to the dealer). If your fuel pressure is good the problem could be with your fuel injectors so you would need to have them tested next. But if the fuel pressure is not good...then the problem is isolated to the fuel system. Need to check if the filter is clogged and if the line from the tank to the engine is clear.
