I have a 2004 Buick with a 3.8 and was wonder if the
motor from a 2008 Grand Prix would work with the ecm

It is best to use the ECM that goes with the engine. I suspect you could switch them with very little difference. Sometime with that 4 year spread, they might have moved some components on the engine and your Buick wiring harness will not plug into the Pontiac, you might need to get the Pontiac engine harness.
