gas gage is stable read full or empty

the gas gage reads full or empty is this a gage problem or a ground I was told the fuel pump / gage had been replaced at one time, could it be a bad connection or miss wired gage?

either or.. or tank sending unit or short to ground....

My car did that... It was the sensor on the pump itself. Very common.
my wires run to top of tank 2005' GMC Sonoma I guess pull the tank
