2004 Buick Rendezvous fuel gauge problem

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My fuel gauge goes all the way to full for a little bit, then goes to empty and
the low fuel light comes on. It has a new fuel pump and I tested the sending
unit it reads ok. Tried a new instrument cluster and same issue. What do I
need to check next?

Does the sending unit read OK when your gauge reads empty? I suspect the sending unit has an intermittent problem.

Yes, it does. The fuel gauge never reads in between, had a half tank of gas and still reads full or empty. Side note, after working on the instrument cluster the gauge goes to empty faster, was staying on full while driving and only went to empty when the car sat idle at a stop light for more than a minute.

I found out that the hardest from the gas tank to under the car you need to do a continuity check on it the way the factory put the wires together there are not crimp they just laying side by side with three feet of tape on them
