O I need a new transmission?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1998 Chevy K1500 4x4. I bought
this truck yesterday. Drove to the BMV and
everything felt perfectly fine. After that I
went to my friends house to do plugs, wires,
etc ... on the highway I was doing about 60
and went to go faster hut the rpms would
jut go up but the truck wouldn't actually go
faster. So I get to my friends house and put
the truck in 4x4 to get out of some snow. I
stop and then put it back into 2 wheel drive.
I went to go leave the driveway in reverse
and the truck wouldn't move. No matter
what gear it was in it wouldn't move. So I
checked the tranny fluid and it was almost
bone dry. So I went right away and got
tranny fluid and got the lucas quick fix. I let
it sit for a litte after putting fluid in it and
went to move the truck and it went into gear
and moved. My question is do I need a new
transmission or what could it be. HELP!!

You might have caught the low fluid in time, but the big question is.....where did the fluid go and why was it low. I am guessing there is a leak somewhere.

Well we literally checked everywhere and found no leaks.. the truck was sit ting for approx two year and was over a few times in that span just to be driven

These trucks are excellent. Take a lot of punishment, and I know owners that drive them to the ground with out any maintenance. --If you can, flush the tranny. It doesn't say in the manual, but I do it every 50,000 miles. I have seen very tiny metal shavings come out.
