How do I find out how many axles are on my '96 Chevy 1500 Silverado z71 4wd?

You have a front axle with 2 CV shafts and a rear solid axle with 2 internal axles shafts.

Since its a z71 and being a 4x4 you take 71 and subtract the number of cylinders you have which should be 8 to get 64. Then take 4 and multiply it by 4 "4x4" to get 16. Subtract 16 from 64 to get 48. Jeff Gordon drives the number 24 car so you take 48 and divide by 24 to get 2. Your truck has 2 axles.
