I bought a 96 k1500 4x4 with a bad tranny and now the head gasket went, I don't feel like repairing it has 230000 but I cant find a decent 305. I found a 97 with a rotted frame but motor and tranny have 127000. I wanted to know if I do change over will I need to change the harness and the computer

It's all the same. If it's a 350 go ahead and take the computer so it's programmed for one.
5.0 and 5.7 used the same ECM The 5.0 pcm will not lean out the 5.7 engine at all. the 02 sensors will correct the fuel mixture and you will not have any trouble with running what you have already. The only reasone you would need to make any mods to the pcm or the wire harnss would be if you where going from a 4.3 to a 5.7.
Your telling me a pcm programmed to an engine flowing 305 ci worth of displacement that uses a MAF sensor isn't going to tell a difference in another 45 ci of displacement? The maf reading alone will be different, the fuel trim tables will be too lean. It will run, no doubt about that but it won't be right.
yep. gm says there both in the same parametersFYI... several GM trucks use the same 16197427 ECM for 5.0 and 5.7 just change out the chip if you want.. Can I put a 1995 Tahoe motor in my 1990chevy k1500?
Yes, as long as they are the same engine size you'll be good. Going v6 to v8 would be alittle more involved. And switching from a 305 to 350 will be plug and play but I would advise the appropriate pcm to go with the motor

I've got a brand new 2000 350 long block what do I need to do to make it work in my1993 truck
I just bought a 98 chevy silerado 1500 305 5.0 liter v8 vortec had a lower end knock so i bought a 96 gmc with a 350 5.7 liter v8 vortec for the motor. The swap went good and everything bolted up and plugged in without any problems. To save time, fluids, and a/c recharge i left the power steering pump and a/c compressor lines hooked up, i just unbolted them from the motor and pulled them out of the way. I removed the distributor for access to the top bell housing bolts. DO NOT TURN THE CRANKSHAFT WITH THE DISTRUTOR OUT unless you want to reset the timing. After i got everything bolted down and plugged and fluids in it, it started no problem. After driving it a week now, i believe the ecm/pcm has not learned the difference from the 305 to the 350. I hear it backfiring when im coasting and the motor cuts out and picks right back up randomly while driving. Im looking into having my ecm reprogrammed locally or maybe getting a ecm from scrap yard for the 5.7 and flashing it to my vin#. Any advice on the ecm would be great. Hope this helps anyone considering swapping from 305 to 350.
Yes ,I got a 93chevy 1500,came with a 4.3v6 ,so I yank it out and put a350,5.7,do I have change the computer, or the chip,to make it run.Ann were is it located?
What will I have to do to swap a 4.3 to 7.4 in my 1996 K1500 4x4? I know I will need the wiring harness and the ecm. I want to use my existing 5 speed transmission.
