1996 silverado running wierd can i get some help

my 1996 chevy 1500 4x4 has a problem i need help. while riding down the road after
about 5 miles the RPM gauge will drop to zero and the MPH will go to 100. the
transmission will shift down to 3rd gear and runs like until you shut the truck off..Has
anyone else had this problem and if so how to correct it    Thanks

no have not checked codes . i just got the truck and the guy i got it from said the PCM was bad.. when i got it home i noticed the positive terminal on the battery was not tight so i replaced the battery and terminals and it did not show service engine light . on my way home it acted up again . I do not know how to check the reference voltage
