1996 Chevy Silverado

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Starting Issue. Starters been rebuilt by a very
reputable source, New Battery & New
Alternator.
To sum it up, starts perfectly when cold.
But after it's driven several miles and has
time to get up to temperature, when you turn
the engine off, it has trouble turning over.
Almost like the starter is binding up. And, it
kicks back when you release the key. Almost
makes me think exhaust problem, but
honestly the truck runs too good for such a
deal. It only has 105k original miles on
orginal motor.

And to clarify, I had my Dads charger hooked to the battery and it was showing 12.7 volts. According to the book that came with the charger, anything under 12.8 needs to be charged. Within 30 minutes after starting to charge, battery is back to full charge. Even took the original battery back to Wal-Mart and had the battery replaced with a newer battery. Same problem still happens. My next step was Alternator. Even had the old (21 yrs old original equipment ) delco alternator replaced with a brand new Alternator and still happens. My next step was I put a jumper wire past the link fuse from the alternator back to the battery. I'm starting to get bad ideas of what it COULD be, but I'd rather hear others inputs first. Thanks

Possible blown head gasket of the starts when cold and won’t turn on after it’s warmed up. Does it smoke from the tail pipe exhaust when it runs ?
