95 Silverado Won't Move In Any Gear

Asked by hambone116 May 10, 2017 at 11:19 PM about the 1995 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab LB 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

my battery terminal bolts are lose so I was on my
way to PepBoys to get new bolts. I popped it in
reverse, it went back fine, then hit a bump, knocked
the bolt lose. All I had to do was retighten with a
wrench. Next thing I know, it won't move in any
gear. And it made this horrible grinding noise in
reverse, neutral and when I shift into park. It won't
go into 1st gear at all. The transmission was rebuilt
in 2015. There were no signs of a failing
transmission. It hasn't been driven in a week or
been started in a week. It does sound different at
start up now, but it shifted fine and smoothly today
when I drove it. The engine was fairly quiet. What's
the deal?

Check the fluid.. is it burnt? Are there metal shavings or filings (usually looks like glitter) in the fluid? If so, the tranny is going out. Was the replacement warrantied? If so, I would return it to whomever replaced it and demand a replacement or rebuild. Best of luck!
