1994 Chevy k1500 5.7L bogging down after sitting for 30-60 min.

Asked by vdubn Mar 03, 2016 at 09:13 PM about the 1994 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Silverado Extended Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Truck starts and runs fine in the morning, but after letting it sit for 30 min. to
an hour it bogs down when started before taking off like a rocket. If I let off
the gas while it's bogging down, the rpm's fluctuate and sometimes the
truck dies. In addition, driving after this happens while going uphill, the
rpm's drop off every now and then. Hard to reproduce at mechanic's, but a
major problem as my job requires me to stop and start my truck multiple
times a day.
Have rebuilt transmission, have new GM crate engine, throttle body rebuilt
with AC Delco injectors, new MAP, new IAC, new complete distributor
setup, new ECM, EGR module, new fuel pump, new fuel filters. Mechanic is
stumped...not sure where to turn. Suggestions/advice appreciated.

I'd say to check all the ground connections, re-clean them, battery to the frame, motor to the frame and to the firewall. Thinking it may be possible the fuel filter collected a bunch of crap from when you changed the fuel pump, maybe try another fuel filter, and make sure the flow is in the right direction. Hard to say when you have everything new, gotta be just a bug to work out.

Thanks, I will check the connections. I did change the fuel filter a few days after fuel pump change. Any ideas if throttle body could be causing issues? Had it rebuilt at mechanic and it looks good, but questioning everything at this point.

With the TBI you look to see that there is a nice cone shape spray coming out of the injectors. There should not be any droplets of fuel dripping from the injectors. You could verify fuel pressure, should be 9 to 13 lbs, and while the gauge is hooked up and the key off, watch the fuel pressure to see if it bleeds off or not. The ground from the motor to the fire wall is very important.
