It probably would (not a lot of info in post so making massive assumptions here), but generally it's a bad idea to re-use a fuel pump, it will likely fail soon as well and you're wasting your time all to save $50.
I bought a new fuel pump and put it in earlier but it still didn't want to turn on, it wants to start though. I bought some starter fluid and sprayed some in the carburetor and it was slowly trying to stay turn on when I was trying to start it. I was doing this for a while, but still no luck.. . A friend of mine came by and threw some gas in the carburetor, but that didn't help either.. so I ended up going to O'Reilly's and bought a carburetor cleaner spray to clean it out, it kept doing the same thing (turning but not starting to turn on) then after another while IT STARTED, but smoke was coming from the carburetor and the exhaust(I'm assuming because of the cleaner) .. turn on my issue now is that is idling funny and sounds like it's misfiring, I drove it to my house but at complete stops it will shut off and I have to turn it on again.. , p.s. I don't want to pay anyone to fix it, I do all the work on all of my vehicles, even when I don't even know what I'm doing, I'll learn. ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE ON WHAT I CAN LOOK INTO OR TRY TO FIX THIS ISSUE?
Check you have proper fuel pressure, you can buy a fuel pressure gauge, they're fairly cheap, or a parts store may loan/rent one out. Then check your spark - plugs, wires, and coils. From your description, that seemed like a better candidate for your problem than the fuel pump.
