How to tell if warter pumps bad
1 Answer
Any leaking coolant out of the front or bottom of the water pump or a noisy bearing indicates the water pump needs to be replaced. On many water pumps there is a weep hole in the bottom of the housing. Coolant should not be coming out of the weep hole. Impeller defects such as worn or missing blades also require water pump replacement. Problems with the impeller are not as common as seal leakage or bearing failure and usually cause an engine to run hot.
